Last weekend (Sept 9-11) 32 players from the club made their way to Tocumwal for our annual trip away
The Course was in fairly good condition especially after the rain they have been getting ( the river was at breaking point) however because of this the course was playing very long and the greens were mostly very slow
Friday weather wasn't great and for those who played John Catton came out the winner with an impressive 33 points in the wind and rain
The tournament proper commenced on Saturday and just as we reached the first tee the 30-40 km winds started making golf not easy
the day was still a good one however and the scores not bad considering with Ray Allesa winning on countback from Chris Georgiou and Adam Poyner all with 33 pts.
Sunday was a much better day with only a slight breeze and no rain.
and the scores showed and unlike Saturday where only 6 players cracked 30 points, 12 players achieved this on Sunday.
Third with 35 pts was Shane Johnstone , second with 37 pts was Adam Poyner and the Winner for the day with a magnificent 40 pts was Chris Georgiou ( perhaps Adam shouldn't have helped Chris with his swing the afternoon before)
Overall Chris Georgiou won the weekend with 73 pts with Adam on 70 pts
on Sunday we also have a Mystery pairs game where the players are picked out of a hat after the game has finished. The winners of this and easily thanks to Keith's picks was Chris G and Adam with Graeme Davis and Fran Evans coming second 9 pts behind
For members who don't know what happens we put in $5 for each comp day with the winner on Friday taking the lot and the money split for the first 3 on Saturday and Sunday and an extra $5 for the mystery pairs with the top 2 teams taking the money
We also bring up raffle prizes which we raffle off on the Sunday after lunch ( everyone gets a prize) the club pays for lunch and drinks with the raffle money also helping with the bill.
I believe as a social function this has been one of the best the club has had with all players interacting and all seem to have had a good weekend.
Special thanks to Russell for organizing the trip , rooms etc....
Keith for assisting me in running the comps and Graeme for getting involved so he can run future events
